Quick Overview

B James & Son, Ealing, 'The Hollow Built Match Rod'

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a very rare early 13'6 B James The Hollow Built Match Rod. The rod has 3 sections and was hollow built in construction to reduce its weight and also to make the rod more rigid and straight. Inscribed along the butt section is 'The Hollow Built Match Rod 4' indicating it was possibly the fourth made. The rod has clear agate butt and tip guides, with high bell intermediates and is crimson silk interwhipped. This was an uncatalogued rod for B James and it's not difficult to see why, particularly when you look at the build quality plus its length. It must have taken an age to make. All the whippings and rings are completely original and this has to be the best example I have seen of this model. Interestingly, I have seen the Hollow Built Match Rod No.3 which was almost identical in Build, cane colour and fittings which suggest they were made very close together. This rod comes with the original ferrule plugs and only hangs very slightly over the course of its thirteen plus feet which to my mind is very good. The cork handle is " in length with a shaped bottom. The B James Ealing label is perfectly intact, horizontal to the base of the rod. The rod comes with the original herringbone rod bag supplied by B James during this period. Overall this is a super rare rod which would be a delight to use on the bank or to suit the collector.
